The ETUC stands in solidarity with the Chilean trade unions and the Chilean people in the biggest crisis of the country since the end of the military dictatorship.
We join the call of CUT Chile and the ITUC for the Government to restore the country's democratic institutions and give way to the biggest protest since 1990.
The government of Chile must end its repression of people protesting against the government’s austerity policies, to remove the military from the streets and to open a genuine dialogue with trade unions, student groups and other civil society organisations.
We send our solidarity to the workers of Chile that have called a general strike on 23 and 24 October, and call on our member unions to do the same.
We also call on the European Union to condemn the Government of Chile for the brutality of the army reaction to people’s protests.
