ETUC - Infopoint Conference on European Works Councils
{{After the Recast –first lessons and future potential}}
More than a year after the expiry of the transposition period of EWC Directive 2009/38/EC into national legislations, the main focus of the European Conference on European Works Councils will be on the concrete impact of the recast on EWC agreements and EWC functioning.
European and national EWC experts and practitioners will assess to what extent progress in the EU legal framework represented concrete improvements for EWCs.
Recent evidence of better functioning, better coordination, and more effective rights for EWCs will be presented. Trade unionists at all levels will exchange ideas about crucial ways for EWCs to be proactive representatives of the European workforce in multinational companies, within coherent trade union strategies.
In challenging times of enduring change, high level political discussions will take place on how EWCs may represent a cornerstone of social dialogue at company level in view of the consolidation of a stronger social Europe.
The 2012 EWC Conference will take place in Brussels, in the International Auditorium of the International Trade Union House (ITUH) on 15 and 16 October 2012.
Interpretation will be provided in 5 languages, English, French, German, Italian and Polish.
The Conference is organised in the framework of the Infopoint project (VS/2011/0452 SI2. 607102)
Since 2007, the ETUC has organised four European EWC conferences which were attended by more than 200 participants, provided a platform for contributions of high-level experts and speakers, including, among others, the European Commissioner in charge of Social Affairs (who was the keynote speaker for all four conferences). These occasions were always highly appreciated by EWC representatives: such events always provide EWC members from different countries and sectors with a platform for exchanging experiences.
The European conference will be a good channel for EWC delegates to make their voices heard and give an input into the debate at European level.
